Meet Dr. Watkins
Thomas W. Watkins, DDS
After practicing for over 32 years, I continue to find dentistry a personally fulfilling vocation. I enjoy the daily opportunity to help my patients maintain healthy smiles while also developing long lasting relationships with them and their families all within the small but uniquely cosmopolitan surroundings of Bloomington.
Through personal contact with my patients, my staff and I work together as a team to maintain optimum dental health and prevent many dental problems in future years by educating ourselves and our patients on the constantly changing field of dentistry. I feel privileged to be able to impact the lives of three or four generations of families by continuing our tradition of providing the highest standard of ethics with quality care to help prevent many dental problems such as decay, gum disease, and tooth loss. By helping to teach proper dental care from one generation to another, we are able to positively impact the future overall health of our patients.
We are proud of our solid reputation for professionalism and strive to provide our patients the latest technology in a gentle, friendly atmosphere of Hoosier hospitality.
Education
I received my BA degree from Miami University (OH) in 1974 and then attended Case Western Reserve University School of Dentistry where I graduated with a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1978. I continued my dental studies by completing a general practice residency at the Medical College of Ohio in 1979.
Continuing Education
Although my formal education is complete, I stay abreast of the latest dental treatments and techniques in order to ensure my patients are always receiving the best care. I was awarded a fellowship from the Academy of General Dentistry for my outstanding amount of Continuing Education. As a part of my continuing education, I am a member of the following professional organizations:
- Pride Institute
- Seattle Study Club-Hoosiers for Dental Excellence
- American Dental Association
- Indiana Dental Association
- Bloomington Dental Society
Family
I am originally from Tiffin, Ohio but have now called Bloomington home for the past 30 years. My wife Nancy and I have four grown children, two girls and two boys who have all chosen careers in the health field. We are fortunate that through the kid’s marriages our family circle has continued to grow and we have now been blessed with one of life’s greatest joys-being grandparents.
In my spare time, I love to travel and spend time with our family. My sons and I have participated in several dental mission trips to Mexico and underserved areas in Tennessee. As an active member of our Bloomington Community, I have been fortunate to work with many friends and colleagues over the years. I am a past president of Girls Inc, a Cub Scout leader, past president of Youth for Christ Board, Member of St. Charles Board of Education and Marriage Preparation Program sponsor, County Youth Football Association Board Member and Coach, Bloomington Junior League Baseball Coach and an active volunteer in the Bloomington Volunteers in Medicine program.
